 Veterans Salute at Clear Channel Stadium will include a flyover by Marine helicopters and recognition of National Guard units from Palmdale and Lancaster that served in Iraq.

National Guard Spc. Nathan Gillespie, a Lancaster resident and member of the Palmdale-based Company B of the 185th Armor Regiment's 1st Battalion, will throw out the first pitch. Their Major League parent club is the Seattle Mariners. They are a "high-A" class team in the California League, and had been a farm team of the Kansas City Royals since 2005 before the switch.  will start at 7 p.m.

Tickets are free for military personnel and veterans, and $1 for the general public. The gates will open at 5 p.m. Sunday. The opening ceremony with flyover will start at 6:45 p.m.

Donations will be accepted prior to the game for Operation Gratitude, which has delivered packages to tens of thousands of military personnel deployed overseas.

People are asked to bring donations such as batteries, phone cards, novels, music CDs and toiletries toi·let·ry

Members of the Palmdale tank company and of the Lancaster-based 756th Transportation Company will be introduced during a ceremony after the game. Many members of the 756th are back in Iraq.

The fireworks show will follow the game and ceremony.

The Knight High School marching band will perform.
