Rosalba Acosta, 44, was driving with four family members on the 1200 block of Saint Andrews Saint Andrews, town (1991 pop. 11,302), Fife, E Scotland, on the North Sea. The victim's husband, Jose Luis Acosta, could barely contain his grief as he recounted the events of Thanksgiving Eve.

``We heard six or seven shots; then we heard two more and one shattered the back window,'' Acosta said, choking back tears. ``The truck slowed down and the kids started crying for their mommy.

``My only thoughts right now are about the future of my children.''

``As far as we know, this is random,'' Smith said. ``By some accounts, it may have been a case of mistaken identity.''

Friends and family members consoled each other in the front lawn of the Arleta home Acosta shared with her husband and three children. The friends and family members declined to speak with a reporter.

Police said they had no evidence that Acosta was targeted, although they couldn't rule out the possibility.
