The Commons Public Administration Committee has put off until July at the earliest its investigation into cash for peerages allegations about pounds 14million loaned to the Labour party by a dozen rich benefactors. That means his inquiry will not be able to report before the autumn because MPs have their 11-week break followed by the party conferences. And by then, unless Mr Plod has charged someone, the scandal will have I lost all political impact.
