COPPERWELD EXPANDS BIMETALLICS BUSINESS THROUGH ACQUISITION OF RHODE ISLAND COMPANYPITTSBURGH, Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Copperweld Corporation announced today that it has acquired the assets of Metallon Engineered Materials Corporation, Pawtucket, Rhode Island Pawtucket is a city in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 72,958 at the 2000 census. It is the fourth largest city in the state. The current mayor is James Doyle.
Pawtucket was the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution. . The acquisition was made through a subsidiary of its Copperweld Bimetallics Company. The price was not revealed.
Metallon began operations in 1984 and produces a variety of clad metal strips. It sells these materials to the automotive, appliance, electronic and telecommunications markets.
Copperweld said that it plans to continue operations at the Pawtucket facility, which employs about 50 people. The new business will operate as Copperweld Bimetallics Metallon Division and will continue under the existing Metallon management team.
