COORS MAKES DODGERS LOOK LIKE PERFECT 10 DODGERS 10, COLORADO 2.

Byline: Jill Painter Staff Writer

DENVER - Ron Coomer
Ronald Bryan Coomer (born November 18 1966 in Crest Hill, Illinois) is a former first baseman and third baseman in Major League Baseball who had a 9-year career from 1995 to 2003.
was happily rounding the bases during a rare home run trot Saturday and was nearly at third base when he saw Dodgers manager Jim Tracy

James Edwin Tracy (born December 31 1955 in Hamilton, Ohio) is a former manager in Major League Baseball who most recently led the Pittsburgh
     on the field.

Coomer had just hit a home run inside the left-field foul pole in the fourth inning against the Colorado Rockies For the National Hockey League team (1976 – 1982), now known as the New Jersey Devils, see .

, but umpire Eric Cooper signaled a foul ball. The four umpires convened, the call was corrected and Coomer completed his lap.

``I had a little bit of rage,'' Coomer said. ``When you don't play a lot and you know you hit a fair ball. ... But it's fine. They got the call right and that's all that matters.''

It was the latest bit of good news for the Dodgers on a day where seemingly everything went their way. Coomer hit a pair of home runs and Shawn Green Shawn David Green (born November 10, 1972, in Des Plaines, Illinois) is a 6' 4" left-handed Major League Baseball player. The Dodgers trailed by five runs Friday night but led by five after the top of the fifth inning Saturday. They scored in double figures for only the second time this season and have feasted on Rockies pitchers in the Mile High City, accumulating 30 hits and 18 runs the past two games. This from a team that has struggled offensively for most of the season.

Colorado lost its seventh consecutive game and 20th of 25. The Dodgers have won seven of nine to stay in third place in the National League wild-card race.

``You put so much into those close games that it's nice to have a win like this, especially because a lot of guys got a lot of hits over a two-day span,'' Green said. ``We won the series, but we want to try to win (today's) game.''

The Dodgers have maintained their usual strong pitching despite playing in a hitter-friendly ballpark. Odalis Perez earned his 12th victory, allowing two runs and five hits in six innings.

Despite a start in May when he allowed nine runs in three innings, Perez has had success at Coors Field. He had his first win as a Dodger in Denver last April and pitched a one-hitter last June.

On Saturday, Perez even contributed two hits and scored two runs.

``You have to make adjustments,'' he said. ``Last time, I fell off my breaking ball. Everyone knows the changeup and curveball are my best two pitches. The first two innings, I was getting my fastball inside and it worked perfectly.''

    So did the Dodgers' offense.

Coomer, a veteran utility player, took advantage of just his 21st start of the season and hit his solo home run an estimated 378 feet off starter Darren Oliver Darren Christopher Oliver (born October 6, 1970 in Kansas City, Missouri) is a pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Oliver is the son of former infielder Bob Oliver. Oliver played baseball and basketball at Rio Linda High School in Rio Linda, California.
in the fourth inning. He added a two-run homer to left-center in the seventh.

Oliver was chased after 4 1/3 innings after allowing six runs on eight hits.

Coomer was happy to see his name in the starting lineup For the line of action figures, see .

. Left out? No. Wanting to play? Yes. Are there days when it's harder than others? Yes.

``If it's not, then I think something's wrong with you. There are days when you want to play and you're not in there, is it tough? Yes. If I was the manager, would I have a problem with it? No. That means you want to play. There are worse problems to have.''
