COORS FIGHTS FOR WOMEN'S LITERACY THROUGH MEREDITH
 CUSTOM MARKETING PACKAGE
DES MOINES, Iowa, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 45,000 units of a storybook promoting family reading have been ordered by consumers responding through a unique program developed for the Coors Women's Literacy Program by Meredith Custom Marketing.
The distinct advertising and promotion package, part of Coors ongoing community relations efforts, was comprised of inserts in the April, June and July issues of Better Homes and Gardens magazine; April, September and October issues of Ladies' Home Journal magazine, and the Spring and Fall issues of Ladies' Home Journal Parent's Digest magazine.
Meredith also coordinated direct mail for the package, targeting women through select Meredith Book Clubs, community groups and women's organizations.
Content for both the magazine and the direct mail components centers on offering a children's book, "Read on Rita," for consumers to order. The $3.95, 32-page soft cover book, created independently for the Women's Program of Coors' "Literacy. Pass It On." campaign, is an illustrated fable whose theme promotes literacy and the value of family reading.
Proceeds from the sale of the book go towards Coors' work in providing literacy assistance for more than 20,000 women. Coors created a targeted women's effort based on overwhelming need and the alarming fact that one in five women in the United States is functionally illiterate.
The Women's Program is part of an overall $40 million "Literacy. Pass It On." campaign underwritten by the Coors Brewing Company to raise awareness about the illiteracy problem and help bring literacy assistance to 500,000 adult Americans by 1995.
