COOPERS & LYBRAND LAUNCHES TAX AND BUSINESS NEWS SERVICE

WASHINGTON, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Coopers & Lybrand, the international professional services firm, today announced its is launching Tax News Network(SM) (TNN), an electronic news service providing timely tax legislative and regulatory information and general business news for financial professionals.
Tax News Network combines daily information from major tax trade publications published by the Bureau of National Affairs, Commerce Clearing House and Tax Anaysts, with DowVision(SM), a comprehensive business news service from Dow Jones & Co., Inc. As a special, added feature, Coopers & Lybrand supplements the raw information with its own analysis concerning the potential impact of key tax developments.
"Tax News Network is a manifestation of the firm's new strategic direction unveiled last summer," said Jerry Leener, partner in charge of Coopers & Lybrand's national tax office in Washington. "Understanding and responding to our clients' needs is essential to everything we do. TNN is a direct outgrowth of listening and responding to what corporate clients told us they lack: immediate access to crucial tax and general business information and an understanding that will allow them to make timely, critical decisions. TNN answers this need.
"We found that companies were having difficulty keeping current with constantly changing business and tax news. Yet in today's volatile tax environment, it is imperative that they do so," explains Leener. "Only when armed with this information can senior financial executives determine the best strategies to deal with potential tax changes."
TNN will provide users with extensive general business news as quickly as it is reported. Individuals may tailor the information to their purposes by using a filter that screens out unessential information, enabling them to quickly gather only the data they require. Immediate access to general business and tax-specific news, as well as analysis by Coopers & Lybrand professionals, should allow decision makers to focus more precisely on the information they need to make critical decisions that will influence their company's future.
TNN's core servcie will include five elements:
-- DowVision, a comprehensive business information service that provides real-time business news and information from Dow Jones and Co., Inc., publisher of The Wall Street Journal,
-- daily summaries of the major tax trade publications, including Bureau of national Affairs' Daily Tax Report, Commerce Clearing House's Tax Day, and Tax Analysts' Tax Notes Today,
-- Coopers & Lybrand tax publications,
-- weekly briefings on key tax developments by Coopers & Lybrand tax professionals,
-- an electronic mail function to access Coopers & Lybrand professionals.
"By selecting DowVision's real-time business and financial news as a core component of Tax News Network, Coopers & Lybrand is making a total package of essential information available to finance and tax professionals," says Dorothea Coccoli Palsho, vice president of Dow Jones & Co. "DowVision is quickly becoming the standard application for executives everywhere to both be more competitive and grow their businesses."
TNN users can supplement the core service with several add-on modules. Initially Coopers & Lybrand will make available four additional modules, providing regular updates from Coopers & Lybrand tax professionals in four major areas. They are: federal tax legislative and regulatory subjects; multistate tax issues; employee benefits as it relates to tax and finance; and worldwide tax developments.
Users may also purchase add-on services from third party tax information providers. These services include the full text of Tax Analysts' Tax Notes Today, State Tax Notes, Tax Notes International, commerce Clearing House Tax Day and BNA Daily Tax Report. In addition, a subscription to WESTLAW(R), the tax, business and legal research system from West Publishing Company, can be bundled with a TNN subscription. TNN will also include access to Coopers & Lybrand's proprietary ExperTAX(SM) software, an expert system companies can use as a tax planning diagnostic tool.
The core service for Tax News Network is available for a fee of $50 per month per user. The add-on modules are also available for a low additional monthly fee. Designed for executives with little or no computer expertise, TNN connects to a personal computer through a modem or a local area network (LAN).
