COOL FIELD TRIP PINECREST STUDENTS VISITING EXPOSITION PARK SCIENCE CENTER WIN PRIZE.

Byline: Sharon Cotal Staff Writer

VALENCIA - Second-graders at Pinecrest School in Valencia received a special surprise during a recent field trip to the California Science Center The California Science Center (sometimes spelled California ScienCenter) is a state agency and museum located in Exposition Park, Los Angeles. Billed as the West Coast's largest hands-on science center, the California ScienCenter is a public-private partnership between the State  when their visit marked the museum's 5 millionth visitor since opening in 1998.

Instead of selecting one visitor, the museum declared all 30 members of Rosemary Dell's and Cynthia Harris' classes winners as they entered the museum May 23 with purple and white balloons raining down on them.

Docents wearing purple ribbons marking the occasion escorted the class over to a small stage where Science Center executive director Jeffrey N. Rudolph was waiting to present them with their prize.

``It gives me great pleasure to mark this Science Center milestone with a gift to Pinecrest School. We are pleased that the Science Center has been able to serve 5 million children and their families and look forward to serving many more in the future,'' Rudolph said, informing the children that they would receive the DIRECTV Goes to School program as a gift for helping the museum reach its milestone.

The DIRECTV program includes free School Choice educational programming, a DIRECTV with TiVo system, lifetime membership to TiVo service and standard professional installation.

``We are very excited about receiving the (DIRECTV) system. It's a wonderful gift,'' said Harris.

The system comes with a satellite dish satellite dish

The 7- and 8-year-olds still are not sure how the new system will change life in the classroom, but they certainly enjoyed the hoopla hoop·la

``They were all pretty shocked that this was all happening,'' she said. ``They grabbed up some balloons and just enjoyed the moment.''
