COOK`S CORNER : PARTY-FRIENDLY PUNCH.

A Woodland Hills reader needed some punch recipes to serve during the holiday season. Four readers shared their longtime family favorites.

FRUIT MEDLEY PUNCH

Della Robia Ice Ring OR ice

2 packages (10 ounces EACH) frozen strawberries in syrup, thawed

3 cups apricot nectar

3 cups cold water

1 cup bottled lemon juice

1 can (6 ounces) frozen orange juice Noun 1. frozen orange juice - orange juice that has been concentrated and frozen
orange-juice concentrate

concentrate - a concentrated form of a foodstuff; the bulk is reduced by removing water

orange juice - bottled or freshly squeezed juice of oranges
 concentrate, thawed

1 cup sugar

3 cans (12 ounces EACH) ginger ale, chilled (4 1/2 cups)

Prepare Della Robia Ice Ring in advance, if desired.

In a blender container, puree pu·rée or pu·ree  
tr.v. pu·réed or pu·reed, pu·rée·ing or pu·ree·ing, pu·rées or pu·rees
To rub through a strainer or process (food) in a blender.

 strawberries. In a large punch bowl, combine pureed strawberries and all remaining ingredients except ginger ale and Della Robia Ice Ring; stir until sugar dissolves.

Just before serving, add ginger ale and Della Robia Ice Ring, if desired.

DELLA ROBIA ICE RING: Combine 2 cans (12 ounces EACH) ginger ale (1 1/2 cups) and 1/2 bottle lemon juice. Pour 2 1/2 cups mixture into a 1-quart ring mold; freeze. Arrange apricot halves, green grapes, strawberries, orange peel, strips OR other fruits on top of ice. Slowly pour remaining ginger ale mixture over fruit; freeze.

JERSEY CLAM SPECIAL

3/4 cup vegetable juice Vegetable juice is a popular drink all over the world. Vegetable juice is an alternative to fruit juice. Most commercial brands do however contain a large amount of sodium.

If making vegetable juice at home, a juicer that can process vegetables will be needed.

1/4 cup bottled clam juice

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon prepared horseradish horseradish

Hardy perennial plant (Armoracia lapathifolia) of the mustard family, native to Mediterranean lands and grown throughout the temperate zones. Its hotly pungent, fleshy root is used as a condiment and is traditionally considered medicinal.
 

Cucumber slices OR celery stalk

In a covered blender container, blend all ingredients, except cucumber slices, until frothy froth·y

1. Made of, covered with, or resembling froth; foamy.

2. Playfully frivolous in character or content: a frothy French farce.
. Serve over ice cubes in a tall glass. Garnish with cucumber slices. Makes 1 serving.

NOTE: Recipe can be doubled, tripled or more.

MULLED CIDER

3 quarts apple cider

12 whole cloves

1 (2-inch) piece stick cinnamon

1 lemon, thinly sliced

Place 3 quarts apple cider in a large heavy saucepan with 12 whole cloves and stick cinnamon. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes. Pour into a heat-proof punch bowl.

Float lemon slices on top. Makes 12 servings.

Pineapple juice, chilled

7-Up, chilled

Vanilla ice cream

2. Chiefly British A beverage made of sweetened diluted fruit juice.
 

In a large punch bowl, combine all ingredients.

EASY PARTY PUNCH

2 packages Kool-Aid, any flavor

2 cups sugar

2 quarts water

1 can (46 ounces) pineapple juice

Ice

1 quart ginger ale, chilled

In a bowl, mix Kool-Aid, sugar and water. Add pineapple juice. Chill.

When ready to serve, pour over ice in a large punch bowl. Add chilled ginger ale. Makes 25 servings.

QUICKIE PUNCH

1 large can pineapple juice

1 can (12 ounces) frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed

4 cups water

1/2 bottle (2 liter) 7-Up

Ice cubes

In a punch bowl, mix all ingredients. Add ice cubes.

NOTE: You may substitute cranberry juice and pink lemonade for a different taste. Recipe can be doubled or tripled or more.

I have been searching for a light French cookie - a golden wafer that is cut in circle and triangle shapes. The cookie is very thin, crisp, flaky flaky - (Or "flakey") Subject to frequent lossage. This use is of course related to the common slang use of the word to describe a person as eccentric, crazy, or just unreliable. , lightly sweetened sweet·en
