Three readers came to the rescue with some great-sounding variations on the theme, and I can't wait to try them. Alberta Altman's recipe is from a cream-cheese carton and has become a family tradition at Christmas. Joanne Moore writes that Hot Chili and Cream Cheese Dip is easy to make and has become a favorite of many every time it is served.

Joyce West first sampled the dip at a New Year's Eve party at a tennis club in Washington. She once served the dish at a high school swim team party, and the parents ate it in the kitchen without ever bringing it out to the swimmers.

With these endorsements, the dips will make great party fare.
