CONVERSE STAR GRANDMAMA TO PLAY IN SUPER BOWL XXVIII; COMMERCIAL FEATURING LARRY "GRANDMAMA" JOHNSON WILL LAUNCH NEW BASKETBALL SHOE

 NORTH READING, Mass., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Converse(R) Senior Vice President of Marketing, Joanna Jacobson, announced today that for the first time the company will be one of the high-profile advertisers during the widely-watched Super Bowl television broadcast next January. The commercial will feature Charlotte Hornet power forward Larry "Grandmama"(tm) Johnson in his seventh television spot.
 "The Super Bowl has an unbeatable consumer audience -- what better place for Grandmama to launch her 1994 season," noted Jacobson. "It presents a tremendous opportunity for us to introduce a revolutionary new basketball shoe for Spring 1994."
 The 30-second spot, which is currently in production, will air on NBC during the first half of the Super Bowl game coverage on Jan. 30, 1994. In addition to appearing on the Super Bowl, the commercial will air on the FOX Network, national MTV and BET and in 25 spot markets.
 Converse has placed advertisements in footwear and sporting goods trade publications, including "Footwear News" and "SportStyle" (slide of ad available upon request), to notify retailers about its recent advertising commitment to launch the new BACKJAM(tm) basketball shoe with REACT(tm).
 Converse is the largest manufacturer of athletic footwear and is the official shoe of the NBA, USA Basketball, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the Federation Internationale de Basketball (FIBA).
