CONTROL DATA SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES REMOTE HELP DESK SERVICE FOR MULTI-VENDOR ENVIRONMENTS

ARDEN HILLS, Minn., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Control Data Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDAT) today announced the availability of Remote Help Desk, a new service which provides comprehensive, cost-effective solutions for an organization's information systems problems, ranging from employee "how-to" questions to the actual configuration and installation of multi-vendor systems and software.
Remote Help Desk is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The service can be used as a company's primary inquiry and support vehicle or as an after-hours or back-up support resource. Help Desk customers determine which systems, software and applications they want supported, during what times of the day and year -- and they only contract for the level of service they require.
"Remote Help Desk is an extremely attractive resource for customers who can't justify a highly-trained, internal, full-time staff of experts to solve their many information systems problems," said Pam Connolly, manager of Integration Services for Control Data Systems. "As a leading system integrator, Control Data is experienced in diagnosing and resolving the kinds of mission-critical problems that can come up in today's open systems environment."
Remote Help Desk is accessed by calling a toll-free hotline and entering a customer account code. The account code is used to retrieve information from the customer's contract and problem history. Each problem is logged and monitored and receives the appropriate level of resource and attention until it is resolved within the customer's time requirements.
Most standard PC and Mac software is supported, including productivity applications such as Microsoft Word(TM), Excel(TM), Powerpoint(TM), Lotus AMI Pro(TM), 123(TM), Freelance and others. Support is available for many UNIX(TM) operating systems as well as widely used UNIX applications such as FrameMaker(TM) and Uniplex(TM). Customers can also request support for popular database managers, like Oracle(TM) and Progress(TM), and compiler products such as C, C+ and FORTRAN. Support for local and wide area networks is also available upon customer request.
An alternative service, Help Desk Consultation, is available to assist customers in planning, configuring and implementing their own internal Help Desks. Additional assistance is available in identifying the tools needed to design and develop technical information databases for incident/call logging and tracking and for problem resolution and reporting.
Pricing for Remote Help Desk is based on daily hours of coverage. The price of a Remote Help Desk service in the United States can be as low as $35 per call. Total cost for Remote Help Desk or Help Desk Consultation will vary depending on the needs of the customer.
