CONTRACT WITH THAILAND'S CELLULAR CARRIER BOOSTS OSI EXPANSION INTO PACIFIC RIM MARKETS

FOLSOM, Calif., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Objective Systems Integrators announced today a $1 million (25,000,000 baht) contract with Total Access Communications, Inc. (TAC) to provide software and services for the first totally integrated cellular network operations center (NOC) in southeast Asia.
TAC, a wholly-operated subsidiary of Universal Communications, Inc. (UCOM), operates an 800 MHz AMPS service in Bangkok and its outlying provinces. The new NOC will rely on OSI's NetExpert to manage a heterogeneous network comprising of Motorola EMX 2500/1000/500 switches, 95 cellular base stations, NOKIA DMR and Harris Quadralink radios, Telabs ADPCM, and an AT&T 565 fiber multiplexer.
NetExpert will collect real-time fault and performance data from the various elements in the cellular network. Through a built-in expert system, the software will correlate and prioritize the data using its intelligence to correct most problems and alert the operator when intervention is necessary. The graphical user interface incorporated into NetExpert enables operators to spot problems quickly. A special zoom feature moves the user quickly through various layers of the network until the exact problem is pinpointed.
TAC is implementing NOC services in phases. The first phase is the management of all switching and cell site information, as well as cellular call records. The second phase encompasses the transmission network. The system is expected to be operational by the second quarter of 1994. Eventually, TAC plans to install similar systems to manage its other network services.
OSI launched business operations in the Asian/Pacific Rim market in 1993 through a series of strategic alliance partners in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Australia. Projects are currently underway in Japan, Thailand and Australia.
OSI is a leading provider of operations support systems, including network management, data collection, service management systems and service activation systems, to commercial enterprises and telecommunications companies. Headquartered in Folsom, California, OSI has offices and installations worldwide. Since its incorporation in 1989, the company has more than doubled sales each year.
