CONTRACT TALKS SET TO BEGIN

WASHINGTON, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Top negotiators for the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) and the Bituminous Coal Operators' Association (BCOA) have announced that coal industry contract talks will begin March 23 in Washington, D.C.
Richard Trumka, president of the UMWA, and BCOA chief negotiator B.R. Brown, both said they anticipate additional bargaining sessions will be scheduled over the next several days.
Brown and Trumka said that the March 23 start-up date "should provide adequate opportunity for both BCOA companies and the UMWA to prepare for what will be complex discussions encompassing a wide range of critical issues."
