CONTINENTAL AIRLINES EXPANDS PEANUTS FARES, INCREASES JET SERVICE FROM BWI

BALTIMORE, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAI.A) today announced an expansion of its successful Peanuts Fares service at BWI effective Dec. 16 by adding a new Peanuts Fare destination, introducing the low unrestricted fares on two more routes, and increasing capacity on three current Peanuts Fare Routes.
The airline is also reducing previously announced Peanuts Fares to Jacksonville from $179 each way to $149 each way.
The new Peanuts Fares represent cuts of as much as 73 percent versus previously available unrestricted tickets.
Continental will inaugurate new nonstop jet service between BWI and Norfolk with four daily nonstop flights at a totally unrestricted Peanuts Fare of $59 each way. A new Peanuts Fare of $139 each way will be offered on connecting flights to Kansas City, and $99 each way on connecting flights (via Newark) to Providence.
Other new service includes Continental's capacity expansion between BWI and Newark by operating eight daily nonstop jet departures, up from five jets and one turboprop; between BWI and Cleveland by operating four daily nonstop jet departures, up from three jet departures; and between BWI and Greensboro by operating five daily nonstop jet departures, up from four jet departures.
"This expansion gives travelers from the Baltimore/Washington region access to Peanuts Fares on a total of 12 routes," said Continental spokesperson Rob Curtis. "Continental plans to build on its success by using low fares to generate increased demand, which in turn stimulates the need for more flights such as those we are announcing today. We are pleased that we can help the local economy by saving money for area residents and by providing a stimulus for visitors to come here for either business or pleasure."
Continental will continue to offer its "Add a Penny, Add a Pal" program, which allows a companion to fly for just 1 cent each way with the purchase of a round-trip Peanuts Fare.
Based in Houston, Continental is the nation's fifth largest airline, serving 84 U.S. airports and carrying more than 9 percent of all domestic travel. Continental also flies to 53 international destinations including five cities in Europe, all of Mexico and Central America, the northern tier of South America, and numerous points throughout the Mid-Pacific and Pacific Rim. With 42,000 employees and a fleet of 411 aircraft (317 jet and 94 Continental Express turboprops), Continental operates approximately 2,000 daily departures serving more than 100,000 customers on an average day.
