CONSUMERS POWER SELLS RIVER LAND TO MICHIGAN DNR
CADILLAC, Mich., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Consumers Power Company

closed a significant river land sale today with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The sale assures continued public access to the property. The sale consists of approximately 1,300 acres of prime, pristine river land along the Manistee River.
The sale price was $1 million for the property located in the Pere Marquette State Forest in Wexford County. With this sale, the total amount of land sold to the DNR by Consumers Power since 1980 is approximately 27,000 acres at a purchase price of $13,893,000.
"Sale of these valuable river lands to the Department of Natural Resources ensures that future generations will be able to use and enjoy them," said Edward R. Bradley, the utility's electric transmission real estate and right of way director. Bradley received the sale payment today on behalf of Consumers Power from DNR Director Rollie Harmes at a ceremony in Lansing.
The property had been held by Consumers Power since early this century as part of its hydroelectric operations. In recent years, the utility's practice has been to transfer ownership of valuable northern Lower Peninsula river properties to public agencies, such as the DNR and the U.S. Forest Service.
Consumers Power Company, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS), is Michigan's largest natural gas and electric utility serving almost 6 million of the state's 9 million residents in 67 of the 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
