CONSUMERS POWER PROVIDES TREES TO BE PLANTED BY GIRL SCOUTS
KALAMAZOO, Mich., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Over 200 Girl Scouts from the Kalamazoo area will plant 1,400 hardwood trees, provided by Consumers Power Company, on Saturday, April 11, beginning at 8 a.m. The plantings fulfill an agreement reached in March 1990 between Consumers Power Company and the City of Kalamazoo following concerns regarding the Al Sabo Land preserve. A mix of red maples and oak seedlings will add habitat variety to an area where last September over 1,000 red pine trees were planted and at another site at Morrow Lake.
The two planting sites are located in Kalamazoo County. The first site is along a stretch of US-131 adjacent to property along Oshtemo Township and the second site is near I-94 in Galesburg. Both locations are water fields owned by the city of Kalamazoo.
"The 1992 theme for the National Girl Scouts organization is Care for the Earth. Consumers Power Company shares this theme with the Girl Scouts and continually looks for ways to work with local communities in enhancing our precious natural environment," said Joe Herdus, the utility's Kalamazoo area manager. "We are pleased to have the Glowing Embers Division of Girl Scouts work with us in the planting process. Our land, water and other natural resources are important to all of us," Herdus said.
Consumers Power Company, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS), is Michigan's largest natural gas and electric utility serving almost 6 million of the state's 9 million residents in 67 of the 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
