CONSUMERS POWER NAMES NEW ENVIRONMENTAL DIRECTOR

 JACKSON, Mich., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- A change in management of Consumers Power Company's environmental and technical services department was announced by David P. Hoffman, the utility's vice president of nuclear operations, environmental and technical services.
 William L. Beckman, 48, has been named manager of the company's environmental and technical services department in Jackson, succeeding Paul C. Hittle, who was named plant superintendent of the utility's John C. Weadock electric generating plant near Essexville.
 Beckman joined Consumers Power in 1975 as an engineer in the chemistry department at the company's Palisades nuclear plant. In 1977, he moved to the Midland nuclear plant project and was later named chemistry and health physics superintendent. From 1985 to 1990, he was radiological services manager at Palisades. Beckman was plant manager at the company's Big Rock Point nuclear plant near Charlevoix from 1990 to 1993. In the past two months, he has served as assistant to the vice president preparing the utility's nuclear operations department 1994-96 business plans.
 Beckman is a graduate of the U.S. Navy's nuclear power school and earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Fairfield (Conn.) University in 1967.
 Consumers Power Company, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS), is Michigan's largest natural gas and electric utility serving almost 6 million of the state's 9 million residents in 67 of the 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
