CONSUMERS POWER FOUNDATION DONATES $5,000 TO MSU AG PROGRAM

EAST LANSING, Mich., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Consumers Power Foundation has donated $5,000 to Michigan State University's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the college's Institute of Agricultural Technology.
Consumers Power Company Senior Vice President Paul A. Elbert presented the donation today to MSU Provost Lou Anna K. Simon. Also in attendance was Elton Smith, former president of the Michigan Farm Bureau, recipient of an honorary doctorate from MSU in December and co-chairman of the centenary year fund-raising effort.
"The Consumers Power Foundation is particularly pleased to make this contribution to furthering important technological research at the nation's premier land-grant college, Michigan State University," said Elbert. "Consumers Power is the only electric utility in the nation to have once served more than 100,000 farms. Today's contribution further strengthens our commitment to our agricultural customers."
"The Institute of Agricultural Technology has played an integral role in the development of agriculture in Michigan. As the state's largest utility, serving the largest number of farm customers, Consumers Power continues to play a vital role in the well-being of the farming community," said MSU Provost Simon.
The Institute of Agriculture Technology is planning a series of events to commemorate its centenary year. For more information on these events contact Clifford Jump at MSU's Institute of Agricultural Technology at 517-355-0190.
