CONSUMERS NAME FAVORITE RESTAURANT CHAINS IN NATIONAL SURVEY
CHICAGO, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- In the only in-depth survey of its kind, U.S. consumers have named their favorite restaurant chains in terms of overall customer satisfaction.
In this 12th annual survey, commissioned by Restaurants & Institutions magazine, consumers evaluated each chain they'd visited in the past 12 months and ranked each on food quality, menu variety, value, service, atmosphere, cleanliness and convenience.
The 11 winning chains in the 1992 "America's Choice in Chains" survey:
 Burgers: Wendy's, Dublin, Ohio
 Cafeterias: Luby's, San Antonio, Texas
 Chicken: Grandy's, Lewisville, Texas
Dinner Houses: The Olive Garden, Orlando, Fla.
Family Dining: Cracker Barrel, Lebanon, Tenn.
 Mexican: Garcia's, Scottsdale, Ariz.
 Pizza: Pizza Hut, Wichita, Kan.
 Sandwiches: RAX, Columbus, Ohio
 Seafood: Red Lobster, Orlando, Fla.
 Steakhouses: Golden Corral, Raleigh, N.C.
 Sweets: Baskin-Robbins, Glendale, Calif.
Michael Bartlett, R&I editor-in-chief, says, "This consumer survey is unique because instead of measuring a chain's size, it measures the degree to which the chain provides satisfaction to those who actually eat there. Thus, it does not automatically favor a large chain such as McDonald's or Pizza Hut, nor does it penalize smaller chains.
"The survey provides a true measure of how well food service chains satisfy their customers," says Bartlett.
Conducted by NFO Inc., Toledo, Ohio, one of the largest consumer marketing information companies in the U.S., the survey is based on 2,760 completed questionnaires (out of 4,000 sent; a 69 percent return rate) that are geographically and demographically representative of the U.S. population.
Restaurants & Institutions is the leading publication of the U.S. foodservice industry, with a circulation of 143,000. It is published 30 times a year by Cahners Publishing Co., a division of Reed Publishing, U.S.A.
