Information for the index is compiled and released on the last Tuesday of each month by the Conference Board, an , after rising in July and August, fell back in September. The Index (1985=100) reached 97.4 in September, down five points from August. Consumers' assessment of current conditions, as well as expectations for the next six months, declined this month.
