CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON UL'S PACIFIC NORTHWEST LABORATORY

 NORTHBROOK, Ill., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Construction has begun on the 115,000 square foot Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) testing laboratory located near Portland, Ore.
 "Hoffman Construction Company will build the new facility which is expected to open for business in the third quarter of 1994," says John Ritchie, vice president of UL's Northbrook, Ill., facility. "We expect to employ 150 people by the end of the first year of operation."
 Located on 72 acres in Camas, Wash., the facility will serve UL clients located throughout the northwest United States, western Canada and the Pacific Rim.
 Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is an independent, not-for- profit testing and certification organization which has evaluated products, materials and systems in the interest of public safety since 1894. More than 6 billion UL marks appear on new products every year. UL has offices in Northbrook, Ill. (corporate headquarters); Santa Clara, Calif.; Research Triangle Park, N.C.; Melville, N.Y.; and Camas, Wash. (to open in 1994).
