CONSPIRACY SUSPECT CONVICTED OF FRAUD.

A Sherman Oaks man who will soon face charges that he plotted to blow up the Ventura County Courthouse The Ventura County Courthouse, located in Ventura, California, was designed in 1910 by one of the early pioneers of architecture in Southern California: Albert C. Martin, Sr.  to destroy evidence in a fraud case against him was convicted Monday of securities fraud and related charges.

Frank Boyd Cockrell II was convicted of 11 counts and two special allegations ranging from securities violations to theft and issuing false statements in connection of the sale of securities.

The 10-man, two-woman jury found Cockrell not guilty on one count of violating securities laws. He could face up to 17 years in prison.

Prosecutors contend that Cockrell, who touted himself as one of the seven richest men in California, bilked investors out of $1.7 million through a phony operation known as Contractors Surety and Fidelity. The company purportedly was formed to sell surety bonds surety bond
