CONSILIUM AND UNITED ENGINEERS & CONSTRUCTORS TEAM FOR SOLUTIONS IN
PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURING; JOINT MARKETING AGREEMENT SIGNED
HOUSTON, ISA/92, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Consilium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIM), the leading supplier of manufacturing execution systems (MES) software and services, announced today an agreement with United Engineers & Constructors (UE&C), a worldwide engineering, systems integration and construction company, for joint marketing in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. Under the agreement, Consilium will promote UE&C as its partner for pharmaceutical process systems integration and validation services and UE&C will look for applications of Consilium's FlowStream product as an MES software solution to meet their customers' needs. The agreement further provides for complete training of UE&C engineers in Flow Stream to leverage both companies' offerings.
"FlowStream offers comprehensive software for pharmaceutical manufacturing and addresses a range of good manufacturing practices (GMP) compliance requirements," stated Samuel Giancarlo, vice president, Process, UE&C. "Partnership with Consilium will offer UE&C additional systems integration and validation services opportunities as FlowStream further penetrates the market for manufacturing process and procedure management applications."
In addition, Consilium announced that Phil DeSantis, director of Validation Services at UE&C, has agreed to serve as Regulatory Agencies Board Member on its Pharma Advisory Committee. The committee is comprised of the FlowStream user community and board positions representing industry segments. Other board-level positions include Research and Development, Form and Dosage, Fine Chemicals, Biotechnology and Over-the-Counter Products.
The Pharma Advisory Committee is chartered with facilitating implementation and validation of FlowStream for member companies, gathering and publishing information on FlowStream in pharmaceutical applications and reviewing product, implementation and validation strategies with the FDA. As the Regulatory Agencies Board member, DeSantis will be the primary contact for the group with the FDA.
"UE&C's extensive expertise in pharmaceutical manufacturing makes it a superior partner for Consilium," said Dr. Jonathan Golovin, chief technical officer at Consilium. "At Consilium's request, UE&C's staff of process engineers, systems engineers and validation analysts were instrumental in shaping FlowStream's development for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. It is only natural for the two companies to combine our strengths with our good working relationship to form a dynamic business partnership."
Both companies believe that systems integration and MES implementation will comprise a growing portion of their joint opportunities. With years of experience in large-scale projects, UE&C is well positioned to integrate FlowStream with other systems, including process automation, document management, LIMS and corporate MRP II software.
FlowStream is a new generation of software that meets the specific needs of process manufacturers, including those in the pharmaceutical, chemical and consumer packaged goods industries. With FlowStream, process manufacturers can track received materials through dispensing to a batch, track work-in-process, capture batch record information, display necessary processing instructions to operators, maintain complete equipment logs from production and sanitation services, manage batch doctoring in chemical processes and link automated equipment with manual operations.
FlowStream provides an effective method for supporting regulatory compliance, including reporting exposure and equipment and labor qualification to OSHA, providing batch history reports to FDA and reporting waste and emissions to the EPA. FlowStream accomplishes this with the technology of the '90s, incorporating true client-server architecture, object-oriented programming in C(plus plus), an SQL-compliant database and OSF/Motif Window Manager for its graphical user environment.
United Engineers & Constructors International is a member of the $9 billion Raytheon (NYSE: RTN)family, and is a leading engineering, constructing and maintenance firm, with approximately 6,000 employees. UE&C has been designing, engineering and building pharmaceutical and biotechnology facilities for over 25 years. Its Validation Services group numbers more than 50 employees, under the direction of DeSantis.
UE&C, founded in 1928, also provides services to the power, metals, mining, petroleum and gas, chemical, food, electronics and manufacturing industries, as well as to government. UE&C offers more than 20 years of experience with environmental facilities and systems.
