With a survey showing most residents favor their own ZIP code zip code

Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  neighbors, Rep. Brad Sherman Bradley J. "Brad" Sherman (born October 24 1954) is an American politician. He has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997, representing California's At-large congressional district.  vowed Wednesday to pressure the U.S. postmaster general POSTMASTER GENERAL. The chief officer of the post office department of the United States. Various duties are imposed upon this officer by the acts of congress of March 3, 1825, and July 2, 1836, which will be found under the articles Mail; Post Office and Postage.  to take action.

Sherman, D-Woodland Hills, said he might even go further and create a bureaucratic nightmare for the agency by filing legislation that would include 30 to 40 requests from other members of Congress who want new ZIP codes for communities in their districts.

``If we have to force a law through, we might as well get everything we want,'' Sherman said. ``If we get a new and separate ZIP code, we will be setting a precedent.''

All ZIP codes have to date been assigned by the U.S. Postal Service The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) processes and delivers mail to individuals and businesses within the United States. The service seeks to improve its performance through the development of efficient mail-handling systems and operates its own planning and engineering programs. , he said.

Oak Park, an unincorporated section of Ventura County, currently shares the 91301 ZIP code with Agoura Hills and other Los Angeles County communities.

The listing has irked Oak Park residents for 30 years because postal zones are commonly used by automobile dealerships, insurance companies and mail-order retail businesses to determine insurance and sales tax sales tax, levy on the sale of goods or services, generally calculated as a percentage of the selling price, and sometimes called a purchase tax. It is usually collected in the form of an extra charge by the retailer, who remits the tax to the government.  rates. With the sales tax at 7.25 percent for Ventura County and 8.25 percent for Los Angeles County, Oak Park residents have found themselves paying more based on the misconception that they live in Los Angeles County.

More than 1,000 of some 5,000 households have answered the survey, with more responses continuing to trickle in daily.

Of the 599 surveys tabulated as of Wednesday, 407 residents stated they could share a ZIP code as long as the Oak Park name appears in the address, while 175 stated they want their own ZIP code. Only 17 had no preference.

Assuming Oak Park shares a listing with another community, 574 said they want the 91362 assigned to the North Ranch and Oakbrook Village sections of Thousand Oaks. A total of 16 approved of any Ventura County listing, while nine had no preference and none chose the 93063 and 93065 listings for Simi Valley.

Sherman's five predecessors during the past 30 years failed to persuade the Postal Service to adhere to Oak Park's wishes.

``It would be the height of arrogance if I thought I could get it done in 30 days,'' he said.

Sherman did not set a deadline for when he hoped Postmaster General Marvin Runyon would act.
