CONGREGATION TO WANDER NO MORE; CHURCH MEETS AT SITE OF PERMANENT HOME.

A cloud of dust wafted over the applauding crowd and signaled a new era for St. Maximilian Kolbe Maximilian Kolbe (January 8, 1894–August 14, 1941), also known as Maksymilian or Massimiliano Maria Kolbe and "Apostle of Consecration to Mary," born as Rajmund Kolbe  Catholic Church, which broke ground for its new church on Sunday.

Hundreds of people braved the hot sun to participate in the ceremony as dozens of others took refuge under nearby trees. People sang hymns and said prayers, and three children were baptized bap·tize

``We're very happy to see this day come,'' said church member Juliette Bickler. ``This is pretty exciting to me.''

The parish is named for a Polish priest who traded his life for another prisoner in the Auschwitz death camp in 1941. Soil from a Warsaw church was mixed with the Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  soil.

The first phase of the $9 million project is slated to be finished in early 1999. The new church will sit at the northwest corner of Kanan and Lindero Canyon roads.
