LLANDUDNO hope to exploit a technicality to make it into the third round of the Principality Welsh Rugby Union Cup tie - despite losing by two points in their round two clash.

The Fairwater side had two front row players sin-binned in the final minutes of the game and, with no other front row players available, they opted for uncontested scrums.

Llandudno club chairman Jim Coy said: ``There was some confusion at the end of the game with neither side knowing or having a copy of the rules.

``Having read the cup rules it is our intention to appeal to the Welsh Rugby Union and claim the tie. We had the upper hand in the scrums and were disadvantaged with the five-metre scrums that were awarded in the dying minutes The cup rules read: `If any club elects to take uncontested scrums it will forfeit the game.' There can be no other result other than awarding Llandudno the tie.''

Fairwater club secretary Steve Theaker said: ``As far as I am concerned I watched the whole game and there were no uncontested scrums and we are through to the next round on merit.''

However, match referee David Bodilly of Cardiff confirmed to the Daily Post the last scrum of the game was uncontested.

Llandudno had started strongly and soon built up a 13-0 lead with a try by scrum-half Dave Lowe, which was converted by full-back Leroy Donnelly who then added a brace of penalties. The visitors fought back with tries from scrum-half Jamie Churcher and wing Richard Biston, one of which was converted by centre Damien Walsh to bring his side back to within a point at the interval.

Fairwater increased their lead early in the second half with a penalty from Damien Walsh before converting a touchdown from full-back Martin Gould to lead 22-13.

The home side's No 8 Gareth Crowe went over for a push-over try which was again converted by full-back Donnelly to bring the seasiders back to within two points before the sin-binning.
