CONEXANT UNVEILS COPROCESSORS FOR VOIP APPLICATIONS.

Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT), Newport Beach, a leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications, enterprise networks and the digital home, has introduced a new suite of voice coprocessors for consumer and small-to-medium business applications. The CX9041X family of devices is targeted at products including voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) phones, analog terminal adaptors (ATAs), digital subscriber line (DSL) voice routers, integrated access devices (IADs), and multi-tenant unit/multi-dwelling unit (MTU/MDU) voice and data systems. The new coprocessors can be used in conjunction with Conexant's ADSL semiconductor solutions and home network processors to create comprehensive system solutions for VoIP-capable terminals. To help manufacturers reduce product development cycles, Conexant also offers a suite of reference designs based on the CX9041X product family.

Voice coprocessors compress and decompress voice packets from telephone lines or handsets to a host network processor over a parallel interface bus. The host processor can be one of several home network processors offered by Conexant, including the CX82100 and the CX86202, or one of the company's ADSL router solutions.

Conexant's CX9041X coprocessors are offered in configurations capable of processing one or two independent voice channels concurrently with caller ID. Each channel can run compression and decompression algorithms according to the ITU-T G.7xx series of codecs that are commonly used in VoIP and voice over DSL (VoDSL) services. In addition, the devices include an acoustic echo canceller (AEC) for speakerphone applications. The CX9041X coprocessors also enable the easy implementation of Foreign Exchange Office (FXO) applications by interfacing to Conexant's CX20493 worldwide SmartDAA device for public switched telephone network (PSTN) line interface and analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion.

Packaging, Availability and Pricing

The CX90411 and CX94012 are available in 64-pin quad flat pack no lead (QFN) packages. The CX90410 is packaged in an 80-pin plastic quad flat pack (PQFP) and is pin compatible with Conexant's CX9168 voice coprocessor. The CX9041X voice coprocessor family is in volume production now. The devices are priced at less than $8 for two voice channels and at less than $6 for one voice channel in quantities of 10,000 each.
