CONEJO VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT.

Six candidates, including two incumbents, are vying for two seats on the Conejo Valley Unified School District Conejo Valley Unified School District or CVUSD is a school district in Ventura County. It serves Thousand Oaks, California and its subsections Newbury Park and Westlake Village.  Board of Education on the Nov. 5 ballot. Trustees for the 28-school district will oversee an approximately $82 million budget and about 800 teachers.

NAME: Dorothy Beaubien.

AGE: 64.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in English and theater arts and masters in school administration.

BACKGROUND: Retired teacher with 31 years experience, including 26 in the Conejo district at Newbury Park and Westlake high schools. Married for 37 years with two children and two grandchildren. Eight-year member of Conejo Valley Unified School District Board of Education.

MAIN CAMPAIGN ISSUES: Stress academic excellence for all students while striving to provide a safe and secure learning environment. The 20-1 class reduction is a major boost for education, but to be able to continue to progress, we need to find ways to expand our facilities to accommodate children.

OTHER ISSUES OF CONCERN: Our school district provides a superior education for all students. Nevertheless, we need to continue to maintain a zero-tolerance policy on gangs, weapons and drugs, to expand our school-to-work program, to expand our phonics reading program in some schools and to continue to encourage parent participation.

SOUND BITE: ``During my eight years on the board, I've implemented positive change and advocated new ideas in technology, school choice, special education and adult school programs. I am proud of our distinguished schools, high test scores and low dropout (1) On magnetic media, a bit that has lost its strength due to a surface defect or recording malfunction. If the bit is in an audio or video file, it might be detected by the error correction circuitry and either corrected or not, but if not, it is often not noticed by the human  rate. I have met the challenge; I am making the difference''

MAIN CAMPAIGN ISSUES: The school board will be making important decisions about the future education of our children, decisions that will take them into the 21st century. We need and deserve experienced, qualified leadership to meet this challenge.

OTHER ISSUES OF CONCERN: Class size-reduction implementation; maintaining the integrity of public schools; maintaining the integrity of the instructional program; and safe and well maintained schools.

SOUND BITE: ``I will continue to be responsive and available to the students, parents, teachers and community, and I promise my only agenda will always be what is best for the education of our students.''
