Sure enough, Conejo Valley (14-0) rallied for a 7-4 Western Regional victory over co-favorite Green Valley, Nev., in front of about 3,000 at Al Houghton Stadium.

Conejo Valley all but clinched first place in pool competition with one round-robin game remaining.

The top four of six participants qualify for the regional playoffs Tuesday at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., and the winner of Thursday's 5 p.m. championship game advances to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

Thomson (9-0) struck out 12, giving him 65 in 36 innings - an average of 10.9 per six innings. He also hit a two-run homer.

``I think the game came down to which team made the fewest mistakes, and there weren't many mistakes for either of us,'' Thomson said.
