 denied a defense motion to reduce the conviction to a misdemeanor offense.

Michael Hemphill, the Thousand Oaks chiropractor, pleaded guilty to six charges on Jan. 17 and faces sentencing in Superior Court on Feb. 15. Hemphill pleaded guilty to paying for patient referrals, two charges of workers' compensation workers' compensation, payment by employers for some part of the cost of injuries, or in some cases of occupational diseases, received by employees in the course of their work.  insurance fraud, and three charges of unemployment tax fraud.

The two chiropractors are among 11 men and women indicted INDICTED, practice. When a man is accused by a bill of indictment preferred by a grand jury, he is said to be indicted.  or charged following an undercover investigation by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office in 1994.
