CONEJO VALLEY: PUBLIC FORUM : OFFICIALS ENDORSE BOARD INCUMBENTS.

On Nov. 4, voters in the Las Virgenes Unified School District Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD) is a K-12 school district in north-west Los Angeles County, USA consisting of 14 public schools in the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Westlake Village, and several small portions of the West Hills section of Los Angeles.  will make several important decisions having long-term implications for our community.

There are six candidates competing for three seats on the Board of Education. After carefully reviewing the backgrounds, platforms and qualifications of these candidates, we urge voters to re-elect re·e·lect also re-e·lect

These three individuals have represented the district well, working together over the past four years to maintain the academic excellence of our schools. Their professional conduct and thoughtful decisions have earned them the respect of administrators, teachers, parents and students alike.

Meyer, Jordan and Bowman-Fagelson are the only candidates who have provided strong support for Measure R since its inception. This worthy proposal, which also appears on the Nov. 4 ballot, would authorize the district to issue $93 million in general obligation bonds to finance the construction of new schools and renovate existing facilities.

Measure R would allow the school district to modernize, upgrade and repair its structures, relieve overcrowding overcrowding

, and enhance the safety of its premises. Our community has always prided itself on the outstanding reputation of its public schools. Passage of Measure R will ensure that this legacy continues.

Broomand is the best candidate for council

The time has come to elect three new members to the Westlake Village City Council. When that time comes around, many voters begin to think about one or two single issues that affect them directly, but I don't.

I think about whether a candidate is qualified for the work and, especially, whether that candidate has integrity. I want a person of sound moral principles; I want someone who is honest and can be trusted; I look for a person of sincerity; and I search for a candidate who will stand up for the principle and who will not back off at the first demand from small pressure groups.

Another quality I look for is whether the candidate is willing to listen to all sides carefully and seek the great American principle of compromise.

In this election I have found that balance in a candidate whom I respect and who meets my requirements - Dr. Iraj Broomand.

In fact, I was so impressed with his qualifications and his integrity that I joined his campaign committee.

The only one to care enough? Elois Zeanah

And why are we so special? Our community was established with a deep respect for its ``golden egg.'' Open space was guaranteed protection in the development of the General Plan. Our first Civic Center was the personification personification, figure of speech in which inanimate objects or abstract ideas are endowed with human qualities, e.g., allegorical morality plays where characters include Good Deeds, Beauty, and Death.  of this vision: low profile, generous natural landscape and built for a modest budget. Times have changed and so has leadership's commitment to our General Plan.

When the Cultural Heritage Board toured Thousand Oaks' first Civic Center for evaluation as a local landmark, only one council members was present. Elois Zeanah felt strongly enough about preserving our award-winning building, our public assets and our history that she alone attended the tour.

Her efforts to preserve the ``Eyebrows on the Hill,'' the landmark Dos Vientos barns and our General Plan guarantee my NO RECALL vote on Nov. 4.

Recall success would strike blow for truth

One of the biggest lies throughout the recall campaign against Elois Zeanah is the bogus notion that Zeanah and Linda Parks For the DC Comics character, see .

Linda Park (born July 9, 1978) is a Korean American actress who is best known for her portrayal of communications officer character Hoshi Sato in the television series .
are the only slow-growth council members sitting on the Thousand Oaks City Council. The truth is we have five. Why? Because we have a General Plan that provides for slow, controlled growth and protects us from the rampant overdevelopment that Zeanah and Parks would try to scare the community into believing would happen when Zeanah is recalled.

Our General Plan was reinforced by Measure E, an initiative that forces modification to the General Plan to a vote of the people. Measure E was drafted and championed not by Linda Parks and not by Elois Zeanah! In fact, Zeanah wanted so badly for Measure E to fail that she placed a ballot statement opposing it! In essence, Zeanah vigorously fought against a control against overdevelopment! She said ``no,'' but the people, by an overwhelming two-thirds majority said, ``yes.'' So, whether it's an intimidating in·tim·i·date

Special man is No. 1 for a special election

This is a recommendation of Dennis Gillette for election to the Thousand Oaks City Council. It would have been forthcoming at the next regular election, so his candidacy and qualifications have nothing to do with the expedience ex·pe·di·ence

As a former mayor, council member and activist for incorporation of the city, I have been involved with church, political and social activities long enough to have known Dennis' parents and to have watched the development of his career in public service from its beginning.

The details showing the depth and breadth of his achievements will be covered elsewhere by the press. The purpose here is to state explicitly that we as voters seldom have the opportunity to elect a candidate who is already experienced and proven as an elected official (Recreation and Park District) for many years; and who has risen to a high rank as a public administrator (chief of police/assistant sheriff). Were that not enough, after leaving public service, he has distinguished himself as an executive administrator on the private sector (vice president for administration of California Lutheran University Mission statement
The University's mission statement is as follows:

"California Lutheran University is a diverse, scholarly community dedicated to excellence in the liberal arts and professional studies.
).

He is further qualified by education (MS degree) and ethically by his own values as evidenced in the high standards required by the positions he has filled. On the issue of growth and development, he assures me that he will uphold the letter and the spirit of the General Plan. This is always important to me for, as a candidate and later as a member of the council during the deliberations involved in the passing of the plan, I developed a reputation as a slow- and low-growth advocate.

For all of these substantial reasons I urge you to vote for Dennis Gillette, if in fact you vote to replace the contested council member.

Councilwoman's foes promote mean spirit

Why is the recall committee spending such big money to silence a sweet Southern belle For other uses, see Southern Belle (disambiguation).
A southern belle (derived from the French belle, 'beautiful') is an archetype for a young woman of the American Old South's antebellum upper class.
? Why are they so afraid of her? Could it be that this soft spoken lady carries a big stick?

President Teddy Roosevelt once said ``speak softly but carry a big stick.'' Our Councilwoman Elois Zeanah does just this. She refuses to take contributions from developers and she is not afraid to stand up to them to protect our interests and our laws. This could be the only reason the anti-Zeanah committee wants to remove her. If she weren't on the City Council, the developers would have an easier time getting developments passed that break our laws and ruin our community.

I can't believe Peter Turpel, Jill Lederer and other members of the recall committee have brought such divisiveness and nasty politics to our lovely family community. The hostility they showed the Thousand Oaks resident and businessman Edward Masry is just as shocking. I want to thank Masry for his courage to stand up for what is right and to help those of us who live here stop the special interests from buying democracy.
