CONEJO VALLEY: BRIEFLY : WOMAN CRITICALLY HURT IN VENTURA CAR CRASH.


VENTURA - A woman was in critical condition after her car was broadsided Saturday near the County Government Center.

Ventura police say 35-year-old Lorie Easlick of Ventura was driving east on Victoria Avenue at 2:30 p.m. through the intersection at Webster Street when her car was broadsided by an auto driven by a 16-year-old girl.

Both cars spun sideways. Police said Easlick wasn't wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected, then trapped underneath her car when it overturned.

Easlick remained in critical condition Sunday after being transferred Saturday night to UCLA Medical Center UCLA Medical Center is a hospital located on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California. Boy in stolen car held after canyon crash

 council to select housing commissioner

SIMI VALLEY - The city is accepting applications for a representative to serve on the Board of Commissioners for the Area Housing Authority of Ventura County.

There will be an appointment to a term that will expire in February 2000.

Area housing commissioners help make policy and generally oversee the housing agency that serves the county's low-income and elderly residents.

The board meets at 4 p.m. on the last Wednesday of the month. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 23.

Training program set for starting a business

VENTURA - County government will sponsor an Entrepreneur Academy course on getting a small business started or ready to expand.

Funded with Job Training Partnership Act money, the 100-hour program will start Oct. 24 and teach aspiring entrepreneurs how to evaluate business ideas, conduct market research, develop marketing strategies, determine financial and operational requirements, find funding sources and draw up business plans.

An orientation workshop will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Human Resources Training Room on the fourth floor of the Hall of Administration at the County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura.To reserve a seat at the orientation, call (805) 662-6556.
