CONEJO VALLEY: BRIEFLY : SUSPECT ARRESTED IN 5 BANK HEISTS.


VENTURA - A Ventura man has been arrested on suspicion of robbing five banks in Ventura and Santa Barbara Santa Barbara (săn'tə bär`brə, –bərə), city (1990 pop. 85,571), seat of Santa Barbara co., S Calif., on the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1850.  counties, officials said Thursday.

Raymond Ernest Hilliard II, 29, was arrested Wednesday by police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), division of the U.S. Dept. of Justice charged with investigating all violations of federal laws except those assigned to some other federal agency.  at his west Ventura home, officials said.

Investigators say the spree began with the robbery of the Glendale Federal Bank in Ventura on June 3.

Officials said the robber was photographed by bank surveillance cameras. A federal magistrate issued an arrest warrant the day after the Thousand Oaks robbery, officials said.

FBI officials said they expected to seek a federal grand jury indictment of Hilliard for the robberies.

Police offer reward in store robbery

NEWBURY PARK - Police are offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in the robbery of Atlas Beauty Supply in June.

Police said a knife-wielding suspect entered the store in the 2000 block of Newbury Road at about 4:15 p.m. June 29 and took an undetermined amount of cash. Police describe the suspect as a 40-year-old male, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 170 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes.
