CONEJO VALLEY: BRIEFLY : SHERIFF'S DIVERS FIND BODY OF T.O. SWIMMER.


Ventura County sheriff's divers have recovered the body of a Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Tomas Garcia, 24, was last seen by a relative while swimming about 150 yards off Yerba Buena yerba buena (yĕr`bə bwā`nə), trailing evergreen perennial (Micromeria chamissonis) of the family Labiatae (mint family). It is native to W North America and especially common to woodland areas along the Pacific coast.  Beach and disappeared about 4:50 p.m. The team of a half-dozen divers searched Sunday and again Monday, finding Garcia's body on its final dive in about 12 feet of water some 300 feet east of where Garcia was last seen.

Authorities said Garcia was caught in a strong rip current and was carried into deeper water. Red Cross to offer child care training

SIMI VALLEY - The American Red Cross American Red Cross: see Red Cross.  East Valley District office will offer 15 hours of training for child care providers Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and May 22 and 29 from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

Upon completion of this course, students will be prepared to respond to respiratory and cardiac emergencies in children and infants, and pediatric pediatric /pe·di·at·ric/ (pe?de-at´rik) pertaining to the health of children.

Students also will learn how to prevent disease transmission. This course, offered in Simi Valley, meets Assembly Bill 243's requirements for licensing of a child care provider.

Director to oversee combined programs

Stephen G. Kaplan has been appointed director of Behavioral Health for the Ventura County Health Care Agency.

Kaplan has served as director of Alcohol and Drug Programs for Ventura County for seven years and as director of mental health coordination for Juvenile Justice and Children's Services for seven years.

The newly created position is the result of the reorganization of the agency to streamline and improve efficiency by combining the Drug and Alcohol Programs with the Mental Health Department.

Health agency names insurance manager

Pat Neuman has been appointed as the Health Care Agency's insurance administrator.

Neuman, a licensed registered nurse, has worked for the Health Care Agency for 15 years as assistant hospital administrator, and as health care plan administrator.

Neuman is responsible for administering the County's Health Care Plan on an agencywide basis. Neuman begins her job this month in a salary range of between $56,784 and $71,942 a year.

CAMARILLO - Interface Children, Family Services is offering training for those who would like to volunteer as a crisis intervention crisis intervention Psychiatry The counseling of a person suffering from a stressful life event–eg, AIDS, cancer, death, divorce, by providing mental and moral support. Volunteers receive 50 hours in training so they can provide counseling for runaway and homeless youth, battered women, adolescents and families experiencing problems.

School administrators get education awards

VENTURA - Several educators in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo San Luis Obispo (săn l`ĭs ōbĭs`pō), city (1990 pop. 41,958), seat of San Luis Obispo co., S Calif., near San Luis Obispo Bay; inc. 1856.  and Ventura counties recently were honored by the Association of California School Administrators for their contributions to education.

The following received Administrator of the Year awards: Trudy Arriaga, Jeff Chancer Chancer was a British television serial produced by Central Television for ITV. It told the story of a likeable conman and rogue (played by Clive Owen) at the end of the yuppie eighties. , Robert Fraisse, Roger Hill, Joseph Studer, Phalba Thomas, Fred Van Leuven and Charles Weis.
