Woman wins state Teacher of Year

AGOURA HILLS - Carole Firestone, the Las Virgenes Unified School District's Teacher of the Year, has been selected along with four other teachers as finalists for California Teacher of the Year.

One of the five will represent the state for United States Teacher of the Year.

Firestone, who teaches language arts to gifted students at Lindero Canyon Middle School, is the second teacher from Las Virgenes in two years to be selected as a state representative. The district announced earlier this month that Firestone had been selected to represent the Los Angeles County Office of Education for the state Teacher of the Year.
