CONEJO VALLEY: BRIEFLY : LIBRARY ISSUES CALL FOR READING TUTORS.


THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - The Ventura County Library Services Agency is seeking tutors to help adults improve reading skills.

More tutors are needed because there are waiting lists for the agency's Adult Literacy Program in Ventura, Oxnard, Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , Moorpark, Fillmore and Camarillo. No teaching experience is required, and tutors work with English-speaking adults.

Training for volunteers will be in Ventura on Sept. 23-24. The sessions will be held in the library administration building, 4274 Telegraph Road Telegraph Road may refer to:

Seniors can sign up for Moorpark event

MOORPARK - The deadline to sign up for the Moorpark Senior Games is Oct. 2. The games will run from Oct. 31 through Nov. 8, and are scheduled to be broadcast on radio and televised on cable in four cities.

The event is expected to bring together seniors 55 and older from all over Ventura and surrounding counties. For certain games, seniors will be matched up with schoolchildren schoolchildren school nplécoliers mpl;

Carol Ghens, Senior Center coordinator, will oversee 12 different events scheduled to take place in Simi Valley and Moorpark.

Medals will be awarded to game contestants.

At the end of the seven-day event, an awards barbecue is scheduled for Nov. 8 at Poindexter Park. The public celebration is free to those who took part in the games.

Volunteers are now being recruited for the event. For more information, or to sign up for the games, call 529-6864, Ext. 261, or stop by the Moorpark Senior Center at 799 Moorpark Ave.
