, is the topic for Tuesday's health and wellness lecture sponsored by the city's Senior Recreation Program.

The luncheon lecture is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center, 30610 Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  Blvd.

Students who have completed their sophomore or junior years of high school are eligible to apply to attend the weeklong session. Participants will get the opportunity to interact with top business people, tour area industries, participate in a management/marketing exercise, use a computer-simulation game, produce a 30-second television commercial and enjoy social and recreational activities on the campus at 60 W. Olsen Road.

The cost to participate is $25. The program is sponsored by the Ventura County Economic Development Association, the Ventura County Superintendent of Schools Office, GTE GTE General Telephone & Electronics

Karaoke winner makes state level

THOUSAND OAKS - Janet Cartwright, a 26-year-old Thousand Oaks woman, has won the chance to advance to a state karaoke contest after winning a local contest sponsored by Simi Valley-based Tuneful Productions.

Cartwright got first in a seven-week weekly competition at The Alamo Alamo

AGOURA HILLS - The city's Department of Community Services is seeking an experienced ballroom dance instructor for its Senior Recreation Program.

The volunteer position would begin in July. Classes are scheduled for 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at the Agoura Hills Recreation Center, 30610 Thousand Oaks Blvd.

Any form of learning provided for adults. In the U.S. the University of Wisconsin was the first academic institution to offer such programs (1904).
 classes are being offered through California Lutheran University now through August.

Most courses will be taught at the main campus, 60 W. Olsen Road, in Thousand Oaks, but some classes will be available at sites in Woodland Hills, Solvang, Ventura, Moorpark and Tarzana.

A sampling of classes includes: ``Helping Customers Buy: Successful Selling for Entrepreneurs,'' ``Employee Recruitment, Selection and Placement,'' and ``Organizational Behavior.''

Auditions will be held for play

CAMARILLO - Auditions will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday for roles in the upcoming comedy production ``A Gentleman and a Scoundrel SCOUNDREL. An opprobrious title given to a person of bad character. Jack Sharkey's play is being produced by Marquie Dinner Theatre Productions, 340 N. Mobil St.

About 20 teams will compete in the tournament today and Sunday at Rancho Santa Susana Park in Simi Valley.

The public is invited to attend all games and a barbecue from noon to 3 p.m. today at Rancho Santa Susana Park.

Proceeds will benefit Clark's widow, Jenifer, and their son, Bayley. Clark was slain last year while answering a call about a suicidal man in Simi Valley.

St. Peter Claver building plans OK'd

SIMI VALLEY - The Simi Valley Planning Commission has approved plans by St. Peter Claver Catholic Church to build a new sanctuary, a parish center, and a future school.

Commissioners approved construction of a 15,556-square-foot church, a 6,006-square-foot parish center and a 23,363-square-foot school for kindergartners through eighth-graders.

The new facilities will be located next to the existing church building on the southeast corner of Cochran and Stow streets.

The decision was embraced by about 70 parish members in the audience Wednesday night.
