Children to create wares from wood

AGOURA HILLS - The city's Department of Community Services is accepting registration for two ``Woody Woodworker'' workshops.

During the two-hour classes, children will make two wood projects, choosing from a selection that includes model boats, airplanes and household wares. Participants also learn how to safely use hand tools.

The workshops are scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 15 and 29 at Chumash Park. The cost is $20 for the workshop and lab. For more information, call (818) 597-7361.

Map and compass class set for kids

AGOURA HILLS - The city's Department of Community Services and the Wilderness Institute are sponsoring a class for 8- to 12-year-olds to learn how to use maps and a compass.

Children also will be taught how to plan trail routes and find their location if lost.
