CONEJO VALLEY: BRIEFLY : HIGH-SPEED CAR CHASE CAPPED 5-MONTH CASE.

SIMI VALLEY - A high-speed chase that started Wednesday in Simi Valley and ended in Los Angeles with the arrests of two drug-dealer suspects was the culmination of a five-month-long narcotics investigation, said Sgt. Curt Rothschiller of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

The chase started at 1:20 p.m. and ended abruptly when the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban pulled into a corner gas station in Downey and surrendered. Simi Valley police officers took Jose Concepcion Garcia, 38, and Georgina Ramirez, 24, into custody. Both are from La Habra Heights and are now in custody at the Ventura County Jail. Bail was set for each at $500,000.

Sheriff's Department investigators made two more arrests in connection with the case at a home in South Central Los Angeles. Rafael Rodriguez Beltran, 40, of Los Angeles, and Lucas Andrade Osegura, 39, also of Los Angeles, were arrested. Both are being held at the Ventura County Jail on $20,000 bail each.

Police recovered an undisclosed amount of marijuana from the Suburban and from other locations searched during the Wednesday raids, Rothschiller said.

Tennis court cost split by Moorpark, district

MOORPARK - The city and the school district have agreed to split the cost of building eight tennis courts at Arroyo Simi Community Park.

Wednesday night, the City Council approved both the initial funding and the location of the courts. The eight courts, which will be equipped with night lighting, will occupy a grassy area south of the park's gym and just east of the southern softball field. Work to survey the grassy area and determine the exact position of the courts will begin immediately, Mayor Pat Hunter said.

The City Council began discussing plans for the tennis courts in July and gave initial funding approval at that time. The city then began discussions with the Moorpark Unified School District, which had expressed a desire to share the use of the courts. On Wednesday, the school district and the city agreed to share construction and maintenance costs for the eight courts, with each contributing $176,000 to fund eight courts.
