The University's mission statement is as follows:

"California Lutheran University is a diverse, scholarly community dedicated to excellence in the liberal arts and professional studies.
 professor emeritus who created the university's 15-foot sculpture of Martin Luther, died Wednesday at age 84 following a brief illness, officials said.

Weber, who taught at the university 22 years before retiring in 1985, created the ``Enormous Luther'' sculpture that stands in the square outside the university's Pearson Library. His other works include a gargoyle gargoyle (gär`goil), waterspout used in medieval Europe to draw rainwater from church and cathedral roofs. Gargoyles were fashioned imaginatively in the form of human grotesques, beasts, and demonic spirits.  that was used in the Academy Award-winning 1959 Doris Day Doris Mary Ann von Kappelhoff (born April 3, 1924)[1] is an American singer, actress, and animal welfare advocate known as Doris Day. A vivacious blonde with a wholesome image, Day was one of the most prolific actresses of the 1950s and 1960s.  film, ``Pillow Talk.''

Hailing from Tilburg, Holland, he was educated at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium and came to the United States in 1949, opening a studio in Thousand Oaks and living in the city until his death Wednesday. He was knighted by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands Juliana (Juliana Emma Louise Marie Wilhelmina van Oranje-Nassau; 30 April 1909 – 20 March 2004) was queen regnant of the Kingdom of the Netherlands from her mother's abdication in 1948 to her own abdication in 1980.  in 1977.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Trinity Lutheran Church can refer to one of several churches listed in the United States National Register of Historic Places:
  • Trinity Lutheran Church in Atkins, Arkansas
  • Trinity Lutheran Church in Rutherfordton, North Carolina
 in Thousand Oaks.

Viva set to perform at drug-free carnival

THOUSAND OAKS - Viva will give a free performance, including the single ``Nirvana,'' at the Thousand Oaks Red Ribbon Carnival today at 7:30 p.m.

The performance is part of free entertainment to be offered by the Red Ribbon Carnival, which is being held to raise money for AIDS and drug prevention.

The carnival will be at Conejo Creek Field, 1375 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. For $8, visitors receive a pass for unlimited rides. Gates will open at 5 p.m.

Sign-ups on for event to help sick children

AGOURA - Sign-ups have begun for a Caring for Kids Trail Run at Paramount Ranch scheduled for Nov. 3 to raise money for a children's camp.

Early registration is $15 and includes a T-shirt. Registration after Thursday will be $18. For more information, call the National Park Service at (818) 597-9192, Ext. 201, or Body Focus at (805) 496-1834.
