AGOURA HILLS - For her volunteer work on behalf of the Las Virgenes Public Library, former City Councilwoman Joan Yacovone has received a certificate of appreciation from the Directors of Volunteers in Agencies.

DOVIA DOVIA Directors of Volunteers in Agencies  is an educational, networking and support group for professional volunteer administrators. Yacovone received her award at a May 17 awards banquet in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. .

She was honored for her role in helping establish the Farmers Market in Agoura Hills, which benefits the local library. She is a member of the Friends of the Las Virgenes Library, on the board of directors for the YMCA YMCA

Faculty members approved for tenure were Charles Maxey, professor of management and dean of the School of Business; William Bilodeau, associate professor of geology, and Kenneth Gardner, assistant professor of drama.

A. Joseph Everson of the Religion Department and Daniel Geeting in the Music Department were promoted to professor. Joan Wines was promoted to associate professor in the English Department.

City agency seeks young volunteers

AGOURA HILLS - The City's Department of Community Services is seeking youngsters and teens ages 11 to 17 to serve on its V.I.P. Teen Volunteer Program.

The program is designed to give individuals on-the-job experience. Participants have the opportunity to volunteer in a variety of activities, including recreational classes and office work at the Agoura Hills Recreation Center and at City Hall.

The program begins June 24 and ends Aug. 30. Applications are available at the recreation center, 30610 Thousand Oaks Blvd. The deadline to submit an application is June 7. For more information, call (818) 597-7361.
