Clark took the not-guilty plea from Deputy Public Defender Tim Quinn and set a Dec. 30 trial date. De Vall is charged with four misdemeanor counts stemming from alleged sexual encounters he had with a female inmate while on duty at the main jail in Ventura. Each count carries a sentence of up to one year in jail, said Deputy District Attorney Tom Temple. De Vall had been working in the Detention Services Division since he joined the Sheriff's Department in 1994, investigators say.
