WESTLAKE VILLAGE - Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky Zev Yaroslavsky (born December 21, 1948) is a Los Angeles County politician. He served on the Los Angeles City Council from 1975 until 1994, when he was elected to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. He was preceded in both offices by Edmund D. Edelman.  will be the guest speaker at the Westlake Joint Board meeting tonight.

Yaroslavsky will discuss local community issues at the meeting, held at the North Ranch Community Center.

The Westlake Joint Board is a nonprofit group representing more than 7,500 homeowners from more than 40 homeowner and condominium associations in the Westlake Village-Thousand Oaks area.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Yaroslavsky is scheduled to speak at 8 p.m. The North Ranch Community Center is located at 1400 N. Westlake Blvd. at Valley Springs Road.

Body may be victim of killer, police say

VENTURA - Police believe that a body found by a bicyclist Wednesday along Victoria Avenue in Ventura may have been a homicide victim.

Sheriff's homicide detectives would release no details about the corpse's identity or evidence that would lead them to suspect murder.

The body was found at about 6:30 a.m. near the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:

 bridge, about a mile south of Park Drive, said sheriff's Sgt. Chuck Buttell.

The bicyclist thought the victim was sick or injured and so he stopped to offer assistance. He flagged down a passing motorist who happened to be a nurse. She checked the victim's vital signs but found no sign of life.

Another motorist was flagged down and called 911, Buttell said.

SIMI VALLEY - The city of Simi Valley is offering 50 personal computers to local private schools and nonprofit groups serving the community.

The 386-model PCs are in working order and generally include a color monitor See monitor. . Printers are not included, and the only software installed is DOS.

Schools and groups that can make use of the PCs should write to Steve Elam, the director of general services, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road, Simi Valley, by Nov. 20. The letter should indicate the purpose and function of the organization, the number of PCs requested, and the intended use for the computers.

Cyclist fatally hurt trying to pass car

SIMI VALLEY - A motorcyclist died Wednesday from injuries suffered when he was thrown under a tractor-trailer rig after attempting to pass a car on the Ronald Reagan Freeway, the California Highway Patrol highway patrol

The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes east of Tapo Canyon Road about 7:25 a.m. in the middle of the Wednesday morning commute.

The victim was John Hurd, 33, of Moorpark.

 officials said Hurd was passing between a sedan and the big rig Big Rig was a punk band from the San Francisco Bay Area fronted by singer/songwriter Jesse Michaels. Michaels performed with the group after the break up of his previous project, Operation Ivy, and before forming the band Common Rider. , between the shoulder lane and the middle lane, when the motorcycle's right handlebar hit the sedan's driver's side mirror.

Hurd lost control and was thrown under the rear wheels of the truck.

The driver of the sedan, Tracy Shields, 37, of Thousand Oaks, and the truck driver, Hector Torres, 36, of Granada Hills, were not injured.

The maneuver Hurd used to pass between the sedan and big rig is legal, said Officer Dave Cockrill, CHP spokesman for Ventura County.

``At that time of the morning, there is a lot of traffic heading to L.A., and traffic usually is between 20 and 30 miles per hour,'' Cockrill said. ``He was cutting in between. I don't think there is any doubt he was at fault because he was the one that struck the other car, even if it was a legal maneuver.''
