THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - The Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks will hold its second Men Can Cook, Too! charity fund-raiser.

Scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, the event will feature 50 professional and amateur cooks preparing recipes ranging from wild game, barbecue and seafood to soups, salads, appetizers and desserts.

The event will be held on the patio outside the GTE/Century 21 Building at 2801 Townsgate Road. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 on the day of the event. For more information, phone (805) 371-0147.

Barbecue will pay boys' way to camp

OJAI - The Pyles Boys Camp is sponsoring a barbecue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 28 at Soule Park to raise money for disadvantaged boys.

The event will feature Santa Maria-style barbecue, live entertainment, a children's carnival and other activities. The cost is $12 a person, or $10 per person for groups of 10 or more.

Organizers hope to raise $20,000, which will help cover the cost of sending about 80 children to the camp for a two-week stay. The children who attend the camp will be chosen by Ventura County and local law enforcement officials.

Pyles Boys Camp offers a rugged camping experience that helps at-risk boys gain a sense of responsibility toward their communities and themselves.

In the past 40 years, about 3,200 disadvantaged, at-risk youths from Ventura County have attended the camp.

Musicians approve symphony contract

THOUSAND OAKS - Professional Musicians of Ventura County has reached a contract agreement with the Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. Audubon Society sets Kenya safari

THOUSAND OAKS - The Conejo Valley Audubon Society is inviting interested people to join a birding and wildlife safari Wildlife Safari is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that serves a 600-acre safari park of the same name in Winston, Oregon, United States. Hundreds of species wander freely over the 600-acre park which guests drive through.  in Kenya this summer.

The safari, scheduled for Sept. 4-19, includes Sweetwaters Private Reserve, Samburu, the Rift Valley lakes The Rift Valley lakes are a group of lakes formed in the Great Rift Valley which runs from south-western Asia through the whole eastern side of the African continent from north to south, with branches into Central Africa.  of Baringo, Bagoria and Lake Navaisha. The safari will end with the great Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
