CONEJO DISTRICT STUDENTS GIVEN CHANCE TO SPEAK OUT.

Don't be hanging out at the mall - it's a waste of time and it bugs the shoppers.

"I chose persuasive because of the competition - there were not a lot of people doing it. And because my brother (Eric, 16) did it when he was in fifth grade," Emily said.

At Wednesday's celebration the top winners from throughout the school district in each category gathered to share their speeches, stories, poetry and commercials with the community. Michael Kay Michael Kay may refer to:

, a Madrona teacher who organized the districtwide event, said 58 students were scheduled to give presentations.

The event "is not about competition but about sharing their talents," Kay said. "They're all champs now."
