CONCRETE DEAL FOR BURBANK.

Byline: Alex Dobuzinskis Staff Writer

BURBANK - The city took advantage of the below-market price it was getting for concrete used in sidewalk A Microsoft service that was launched in 1997 to provide online arts and entertainment guides on the Web for major cities worldwide. In 1999, Microsoft sold Sidewalk to Ticketmaster, which continued to provide guides, ticketing and other information to the MSN network.  repairs near Toluca Lake this summer to fix an additional 24,000 square feet of walkways near Bob Hope Airport Bob Hope Airport (IATA: BUR, ICAO: KBUR, FAA LID: BUR) is a regional and national airport located in Burbank, California, United States.

It was formerly known as United Airport (1930-1934); Union Air Terminal (1934-1940);
, an official said Monday.

As concrete prices were rising, Sun Valley-based Kalban Inc. started work in May on a $457,500 project to repair sidewalks on various streets near Toluca Lake. But Kalban, which bid for the project before the price increase, had a contract with a concrete supplier that was able to temporarily hold its price at a below-market rate.

As a result, city officials and Kalban agreed to expand the project, allowing the city to get sidewalk repairs done for less than it would cost today because of the increase in concrete costs. The $146,900 that was added to the project to repair additional sidewalks south of the Bob Hope Airport brought the total project to $604,000.

The recent price increase for concrete was huge, said David Poole David Poole may refer to:

, vice president of Kalban.

``(There) wasn't really much of an increase over the last decade. The last five months it's gone up 35 percent,'' Poole said.

The recent rise in concrete prices was partly related to high international demand for concrete because of how much of the material is being used to build the Three Gorges Dam Three Gorges Dam, 607 ft (185 m) high and 7,575 ft (2,309 m) long, on the Chang (Yangtze) River, central Hubei prov., China, 30 mi (48 km) W of Yichang. The project, including the 24,000 square feet of additional work, was finished in July. The City Council is scheduled to vote today on the $146,900 change order, but the vote is largely a formality.
