CONCERT WILL TEAM UP ORCHESTRAS.

Local high school and college musicians will take the stage with young musicians from Mexico for a classical music concert Saturday at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. .

The Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Youth Orchestra will be joined by Orquesta de Baja California Orquesta de Baja California (in English Baja California Orchestra) is an orchestra based in the Mexican state of Baja California.

The orchestra is a chamber orchestra of variable size, composed of about 17 to 40 musicians, and conducted by Maestro Angel Romero and
 for the free 7:30 p.m. performance in the student dining room on campus.

The 17 visitors from Mexico have been staying with local families as they rehearse for the show in which they will perform with about 75 young musicians from the Santa Clarita Valley orchestra.

 and Alan Hovhaness, as well selections from Mozart and Handel. The concert will feature pieces written by Arcangelo Corelli and Javier Montiel.

Montiel, whose ``Concerto for Viola and Strings'' was written specifically for youth orchestras, will sit in as guest artist for the concert.

The Mexican musicians are conducted by Mexico City native Sergio Ramirez Cardenas, who also has penned more than 40 compositions for Orquesta de Baja California. Conductor Robert Lawson leads the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra, formed in 1960.

In the past two years, the Santa Clarita Valley musicians also have traveled to England to perform with an orchestra of young Brits and have hosted British youths who traveled here to perform with their American counterparts.
