CONCERT STUDIED TO BENEFIT SHERIFF'S STATION.

Palmdale city officials are thinking about putting up $100,200 in taxpayers' money to underwrite a concert aimed at raising money for local law enforcement.

Palmdale officials will consider fronting the money for a dinner and concert co-sponsored with the Antelope Valley Sheriff's Boosters, expected to raise $150,000 - $100,000 to pay back the city, with $50,000 left over for the local sheriff's station.

City officials said the concert would add to the lineup of entertainment offered for Palmdale residents, such as the annual Fall Festival and summer park concerts.

``We're trying to put together a monthly calendar of events so there is always something happening,'' said Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford. ``We're going to be working with the community to put on higher profile events.''

The booster club is trying to line up singer Tom Jones for the event, said Steve Landaker, president of the organization.

The event tentatively is set for June 28 at Marie Kerr Park, located at Avenue P and 30th Street West. The event would begin with a dinner for 500 held inside a large tent and would be followed by a concert in the park.

Plans call for charging $75 per person for the concert and dinner. For those not attending the dinner, concert tickets will be available from $20 to $35 per person.

Organizers hope about 4,000 people will attend the concert.

The booster club has a ``wish list'' of items it wants to buy to augment Sheriff's Department services in the Antelope Valley. Among the items are two compact cars for the city's citizen patrol program, a van for the crime prevention program, and police radio scanners for the citizen patrols.

The City Council will consider the funding at a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the council chambers, 708 E. Palmdale Blvd.
