CONCERT BAND TO SHOW SWINGING REPERTOIRE.

NEWHALL - ``It's Swingtime in Newhall,'' a concert featuring diverse classics, will be presented by the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. With a guest vocalist and a 45-piece band, the program will highlight big-band favorites of the 1930s and `40s, Broadway show tunes and pop classics of the 1960s and `70s. ``The concert band is one of the most flexible musical groups in existence,'' said its musical director, Tim Durand. ``We are able to play virtually any type of music, including classical, waltzes, rock `n' roll, jazz, patriotic, blues, big band, ragtime ragtime: see jazz.

Tickets to the concert are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the Canyon Theatre Guild box office at 24242 San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the , Newhall, or by calling (661) 799-2702.

Established in 1984, the band rehearses weekly year-round at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center and performs about 12 times a year. The schedule last year included performances at Memorial Day services at Eternal Valley, the Fourth of July Fourth of July, Independence Day, or July Fourth, U.S. holiday, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Celebration of it began during the American Revolution.  concert at Valencia Town Center, the Newhall Street Faire, the Senior Center picnic and Christmas concerts at the Senior Center and at Friendly Valley.

Members of the band range in age from 20 to past 70.

The band is financed through donations and sponsorships. It is available to local nonprofit organizations for fund-raising concerts, and local accomplished amateur musicians are always welcomed.
